Breach Us

Über das Debüt „Perish“, das 2017 über das schwedische Svart-Label erschien, schrieb ich: „Zwei Männer, viel Lärm: Ole Rokseth (guitar/bass, vocals) und Markus Støle (drums) kommen aus Oslo und machen in diesem reduzierten Minimal-Line-up dystopischen Doom, wobei Ole auf dem Album tatsächlich nur mit Gitarre zu hören ist. [...] hat eher was von NEUROSIS, sofern man sich deren eher orchestralen Sound in komprimierter Form vorstellen kann.“ Mit „Breach Us“ ist das Duo nun zum einzig logischen Label direkt vor der Haustür gewechselt, wo ihr Sound hinpasst wie Faust aufs Auge. Interessant finde ich, was Ole und Markus über die Aufnahmen erzählen: „Our goal at Amper Tone Studio was to set things up basically as we do on live shows. Facing each other, Marshall JCM 800 and Simms Watts 120 in stereo and a Ampeg 810 stack on full blast. Gibson Les Paul with 74 gauge strings and a couple of fun effect pedals and we are ready to go. We don’t want to record anything that we can’t perform live, but of course, we always get inspired during the recording process and ‚shit happens‘. That is what makes this band special to us; with only two people there is always room for quick turn-arounds and improvisation. We ended up recording the whole thing in about 48 hours.“ Und ich zitiere das deshalb, weil HYMN einfach genauso klingen, wie das hier beschrieben wird. Ein sehr direktes, trockenes, unmittelbares musikalisches Erlebnis. Die Reduzierung auf das Wesentliche. Wie schön das ist, so angebrüllt zu werden. Fast wie live ...
